PUERTO MALABRIGO, CHICAMA Located 94 km (58 miles) northeast of Trujillo are three well-known beaches - La Punta, El Point and El Brujo. This surfers’ paradise is about an hour away from the KORIANKA. The “Left hander” is claimed to be the longest wave of its kind in the world.
EL BRUJO This is one of the most important religious and political centers of the Moche culture (100 to 750ª.C.) The pyramids of Cao Viejo and Huaca Cortada are important sites, while Huaca Prieta shows evidence of occupation from 3000 to 1800 B.C. A special visitor’s permit is needed as the excavations, begun in 1990, continue.
CHAN CHAN Home of the Chimu culture, Chan Chan covers approximately 20 km2 (7.7 square miles) and is the largest “mud” city in pre-Hispanic America. The complex is built entirely of adobe, combined with gravel, wood, reed, straw and cane, all native to the sandy coastal plain.
HUACAS DEL SOL Y DE LA LUNA

District, south of Trujillo, a 15 minute drive from KORIANKA’s front
door. The Temple of the Sun ( La Huaca del Sol) is a stepped
pyramid about 43 meters (141 feet) high. It may have had an
administrative function for the Mochica elite.
HUACA LA ESMERALDA This was built during the early years of the Chimu Kingdom (1000 to 1476 A.C.),influenced by Chan Chan. Rectangular in form, it is 65 meters long,41 meters wide. Built of adobe it has two platforms which are re ached by two ramps. |
