From 20th to 31st “Week of the “Marinera” Argentina has the Tango, Trujillo has the Marinera. The best dance couples in the country compete in displaying their talents. Couples of all ages compete in different categories. At week end you will have seen the winning couples accept their prizes, watched the Beauty Queen flaunt her charms, and judged the best dressed pairs for yourself. As a bonus you will have marveled at the gait and gear of the Peruvian Walking Horses.
From 1st to 28th Huanchaco Carnival The Carnival in Venice was the inspiration for this festivity in the early 20th Century. It was updated some 20 years ago. In Huanchaco, a short drive from the Korianka, they celebrate with the election of a Carnival Queen, competing local dance groups, parades with floats, street dancing, and contests.
MARCH From 18th to 20th San Jose Celebration This takes place in the seaside resort of Las Delicias in the Moche District. Inspired in Spanish traditions and customs, typical Spanish drinks and dishes are served. Street and building decorations recall those of festive Spain and bars adopt a “tasca” guise, reminiscent of a Spanish tavern. Yearling bulls are “run” in imitation of the Pamplona Festival. You’ll also see flamenco dancing and groups of serenading student musicians roam the streets. Don’t miss the bullfights and fights between bulls.
From 27th to 30th Surfing Championships Malabrigo Beach in the Chicama District is where surfers from around the world gather each year to run the longest “Left hander Wave” in the world.

SEPTEMBER 29th Peruvian Walking Horse (Caballo de Paso) Show Organized by the Breeder and Owner Association of the Peruvian Walking Horse, it takes place during Trujillo’s Annual International Spring Festival. These horses are ridden by expert jockeys (chalanes) who use light movements of the reins to guide their mounts. Some of these beautiful animals also dance the Marinera.
OCTOBER From 01st to 15th International Spring Festival Trujillo, nicknamed “The City of Eternal Spring”, commemorates its fame each year. During this celebration the variety of events brings people from all over Peru to participate in shows, contests, exhibitions, and having fun.
DECEMBER From 13th to 16th “Virgen de la Puerta” Celebration The history of this celebration goes back to the 16th Century when vandals tried to enter the city. The townspeople placed the image of the Virgin Mary at the town gate and the looters withdrew. Since then she had a new name, The Virgin of the Gateway, later changed to the Virgin of the Doorway. At the height of festivities, from the 13th to the 15th of December, the statue of the Virgin is taken from her place in the church and paraded before the crowds of parishioners who sing, pray, and make votive offerings. |
